Green gram dal


Green gram (lentils) is staple ingredient in Indian food. Green gram is high in protein. In Northern India, the preparations are mostly served with Roti, and with rice in southern part of India. Here is a simple recipe for you..

Ingredients:
  • Green gram : 1 cup
  • Chana Dal (Chick peas): 1/4 cup
  • Onions : 1 ( cut length wise )
  • Tomatoes : 2 ( cut length wise )
  • Green chillies : 2 ( cut length wise )
  • Ginger-Garlic paste : 1 tspn
  • Turmeric Powder : a pinch
  • Salt : as required
  • Chilli powder : as required
  • Garam masala : 1/2 tblspn
  • Coriander powder : 1 tspn
  • Curd : 1/4 cup
  • Coriander leaves : few
  • Oil : 1 tblspn
  • Butter : 1 tblspn
Procedure:
  1. Soak green gram and chana dal in water for 1 hour. Wash them properly and remove the water from them.
  2. Add green gram , chana dal  , onions , tomatoes , 1/2 tspn ginger -garlic paste , turmeric , green chillies to the pressure cooker . Also add water till  all the ingredients are dipped in the  water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles  and simmer for 10 mins .
  3. Heat oil and ghee in a pan ,add 1/2 tspn of ginger-garlic paste , fry it , add the cooked stuff from above step to the pan .
  4. Add salt , chilli powder , coriander powder , little water , mix well and let it cook for 5 more mins.
  5. Now add Garam masala , and beaten curd to it. Mix well and let the dal become little thicker.
  6. Finally switch off the stove and add lemon juice to it .Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot with Jeera rice , roti , pulka.
